a first date

Things of note:
  • That is a real mohawk on top of husband’s head. Dan had a 6-inch mohawk when I first started dating him. I thought he was a tough guy who liked to ride motorcycles and skip school (I’m classy like that). Come to find out he was a quiet, sweet, nerdy (nerdy as in smart) engineer who rode a purple scooter.
  • That is not my real hair. That is a wig.
  • This picture was taken on April 24, 2004. Our very first date. College date party. 80s prom.
  • I really can smile. Not sure why I thought this was a ‘give your meanest, hardest look’ kind of picture. I totally ruined this photo because husband looks sooooo good. I’m kidding. Did you see that mohawk?
  • I have absolutely no idea why my leg is wrapped around a boy on a first date. Who in the world told us to pose like that?
  • This photo was taken in a fraternity house. Ha.
  • Fraternity boys drink soda pop.

Eight years ago today, husband and I went to prom together.
Eight years later ... we still like each other.

Oh goodness this picture brings back a lot of memories. I don’t mean to get all sappy on ya, but this is why photography is oh so amazing. Even ridiculous, crappy pictures like this one.

Take pictures. Look back at pictures. Relive pictures. They are so powerful.

That’s all.
I’m going to go attempt to take some pictures with my awesome new camera. And tell husband how ridiculous he looked with a mowhawk. What in the world was that boy thinking?

  23. Tiff, like oh my friggin gosh. We have a problem here. I litterally died of exhaustion as I got to the bottom of all these comments, so much scrolling.. ugh. so basically you need to text me and notify me immediately so I can comment first and avoid carpal tunnel. For real, be a friend.

    Oh and just so you know.. that soda can was my favorite part, your straddling on a first date make me think all of my straddling is no big deal, whatsover.. I don't do it to humans.

  46. New to your blog and this post just sold me on it. LOVE it! My hubby and my first pic is from a concert in DC in 2002. I was 18 and had a major crush on him (he was 21) so stalked him down and hugged him really close. He looks totally uncomfortable and slightly unaware of who I am. I love it!
